Do I need Revit experience?
No. You should be comfortable reading architectural drawings. The course teaches Revit as it is used for MEP work, from the first session.
What will I have at the end?
A complete MEP drawing set for a two-storey building, covering drainage, water supply, air conditioning, electrical power, lighting, fire alarm and sprinklers, with schedules and a clash report. You share it on LinkedIn.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes. Deseret School of Design is an Autodesk Authorized Training Center, and students who complete the course receive an Autodesk Certificate of Completion. It is a skills course and does not prepare you for an Autodesk certification exam.
Which version of Revit do I need?
Revit 2024 or later. DSD gives you the class template and the building's models to download, so you start from the same files as the class.
What laptop do I need?
Windows 10 or 11, 16GB RAM and a dedicated graphics card are recommended. Revit models are large, so a solid-state drive helps. See the laptop tiers on this page.
Can I use a Mac?
Revit runs on Windows. A Mac needs extra setup to run it, so we strongly recommend a Windows laptop.
How is the course assessed?
There are no marks or grades. Your instructor reviews your work in words at every session. At the end, your final project is either approved or returned with written feedback.
Which standards does the course follow?
British Standards, including BS EN 12056 for drainage, BS EN 806 for water supply, BS 7671 for electrical work, BS 5839-6 for fire detection and BS 9251 for sprinklers. The standards are paid publications, so DSD's Design Guidelines hold the rules you use most often.
What do I get to keep?
